History

Background:

The idea of Back to the Bible Mission was born in the hearts of missionary pastors in the Lowveld of Mpumalanga, South Africa during 1980. Their names are: Revs. Peet Erasmus, Koos Kriel, Christo Brummer, Charles Nicholson, Leon du Toit and Danie Louw. Together, they realized the truth of God’s Word as found in Hosea 4:6, “My people perish for lack of knowledge…”   They recognized the need for a Bible Mission to prepare people for the ripe harvest fields of Africa. Land was donated by a local farmer in 1989, to establish a Centre for the preparation of men and women in the Christian Faith.

God’s grace has upheld BBM for over twenty-five years, through periods of national and cultural turmoil & change. BBM has held strong to the promise from God, that …. “If My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” (2Chronicles 7:14)

In February 1992, the first training began with 5 students. All things being left in God’s hands, the Mission grew. By the year 2002, there were 30 students from 5 African countries. In 2007, BBM trained 90 students from 14 African countries, speaking 27 different languages, coming from 50 denominations! In 2016 BBM had 130 students and staff from 20 countries of Africa and staff members from Africa, Canada, Australia, America and Korea as well.
